Market with history

It is possible to find this market in a important area from the city of Granada because its urbanism began in the Mulim period. When  Christians occupied it, they destroyed partly the Medina and rebuilt news constructions as the ‘Agustinos Calzados’ Convent, situated here.

Then, the expropriations of Christian goods produced changes which concerned the urbanism. The convent was pulled down and a new public space with a market were created. This new place was called ‘San Agustín’ Market.

The current market was built by the end of the twentieth century. Its structure and the link between the indoor and the public space outdoor will be important for the design’s process.

The cathedral and the rest of the  surroundings will become part of the project. Besides the market, offices will be included. According to the last structure, new pillars will support new loads in the existing building, due to new floors for the offices.

The double glazed facade occupies all the building  and it is organizated firstly with a glass curtain wall as the main enclosure, and secondly with a frame made of limestone hanged panels as the visual skin of the building.
